Preparations for the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2024 are in full swing at Digital for Planet as three of our projects, covering a range of focus areas including the societal and environmental impact of 6G, are set to participate in the conference’s rich program. The upcoming EuCNC & 6G Summit is taking place in Antwerp, Belgium, on June 3-6, 2024, under the theme, “6G: from Vision to Reality.” The projects where Digital for Planet is a consortium member, namely 6G4Society, 6G-NTN, and SPIRIT will be involved in several sessions and workshops, as well as hosting a booth.
On June 4, the 6G4Society project will address how 6G technologies can embody societal and environmental considerations during the session “Towards a Sustainable and Socially Accepted 6G for Society,” moderated by Digital for Planet’s Director Monique Calisti. The main objectives of this special session are to engage 6G stakeholders in discussions about societal and sustainability challenges, and gather feedback from participants on 6G’s impact on the environment, health, and KVIs. The session is also a space to align on major efforts at R&I, policy, and regulatory levels. This discussion is an important stepping stone for 6G4Society’s ultimate aim: to make sure societal and sustainable values are properly embedded into the development of 6G technology, bringing a sociological perspective to technological development.
The 6G-NTN project partners will participate in Workshop 8, “Architectural Considerations Enabling the IMT 2030 Framework by European 6G R&D Activities,” on June 3 from 14:00 to 17:30 in Room Galapagos. The consortium members will discuss strategic advancements under the newly approved ITU IMT-2030 framework, targeting the progression to 6G by integrating new usage scenarios with a focus on sustainability and security. This session aims to contribute to the future standardization paths of 6G technologies.
The 6G-NTN project partners will also engage in a workshop focused on the regulatory aspects critical for the development of 6G technology. This discussion, titled “Bringing 6G from Vision to Reality in Europe – The Key Role of Regulation in Research,” will take place on June 4 from 11:00 to 13:00 in Room Toucan 2, exploring the regulatory challenges and opportunities shaping 6G’s future.
In addition to the abovementioned sessions and workshops, the SPIRIT project will have a booth presenting the current activities the consortium partners are working on.
We look forward to insightful discussions with thought leaders, researchers, policymakers, and industry pioneers and learning more about 6G as a vital component of Europe’s digital future.
The EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: the European Conference on Networks and Communications, supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, which originated from the 6G Flagship program in Finland. The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP). The event focuses on all aspects of telecommunications ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation and testbeds, and applications and services. The conference brings together cutting-edge research and world-renowned industries and businesses. In the last few years, the conference has attracted over 900 delegates from more than 40 countries who came together to present and discuss the latest results and demonstrate developed technologies.
